Biography
A scholar in context
Abū Muḥammad ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad ibn Saʿīd ibn Ḥazm was one of the most prolific intellectual figures of al-Andalus. A jurist, theologian, historian, poet, and polemicist, he became the scholar most closely associated with the Ẓāhirī insistence on the apparent meaning of revealed texts.
Al-Fiṣal moves from the foundations of knowledge through creation, prophecy, Judaism, Christianity, Muslim theology, sectarian history, and questions of certainty. The Al Sadiqin edition presents the complete work in five English volumes with critical notes.
