What does the Qur'an say about the iHod (the Hodites)

The original meaning of the words iHod (Hodites), Hodan (Hodite), and iHodian (a Hodite) were in relation to the Prophet Hod. Later the words became applied to Jews to fulfill a particular purpose at an early stage, and have become common usage in reference to Jews. In fact the Hodites were Kenite Judaizers rather than Jews proper, and they followed a distinct variation of Hanputa which venerated Ezra, but shunned Gabriel, practiced magic and cast spells, and it had a priesthood who prescribed the blackening of faces as a punishment for adultery. The Prophet (pbuh) tried to guide them back away from Judaizing towards a more acceptable standard form of Hanputa, i.e. Islam, thereby keeping Jews and Gentiles in the appropriate juxtaposition required by Torah.

  • 2.111 They say none enter paradise unless they are Hodites.
  • 2.113 Though they read the Tanakh, they dramatically appose others who do likewise such as the Natsara, each believe the other group is going to hell. E
  • 2.120 They will never be pleased with anyone until that person follows their creed.
  • 2.135 They say be a Hodite, only then you will be saved.
  • 2.140 They say Abraham, Isma'il Isaac, Jacob and the Tribes were Hodites E
  • 3.67 Abraham was NOT a Hodite.
  • 5.018 Both the iHod and the Nasara call themselves the beloved "children of G-d" E
  • 5.051 The believers should not take the iHod (or Nasara) as friends or protectors: E
  • 5.064 The iHod say that Allah has hands, and they are tied. (They use anthropomorphic terms) E
  • 5.082 The iHod and Polytheists (the Khuza'a??) were the strongest enemies of the believers, the Nasara are the closest in character. The Nasara have monks and ascetics. The iHod and Polytheists are arogant. E
  • 7.65 Hod was a Prophet to the land of Aad
  • 9.030 The iHod call 'Uzair a son of Allah. Its just a saying, but in this they imitate pagan practices E
  • 11.50-60 Hod was a Prophet to the land of Aad
  • 11:89 Hod was warned of the first disaster after Noah.
  • 26.124 Hod was a Prophet to Aad.
